Red Sage Studios

About Us

Many of us have grown up with YA movies having a huge impact on our lives. Whether it was The Hunger Games, Legally Blonde, Twilight, Cruel Intentions, The Karate Kid, Superbad, Mean Girls, Dazed and Confused or countless others, these films, with main characters aged 17-22, are so influential because that’s the time in life when drama, love, comedy and action are supersized.

Stories for children and fully-settled adults are everywhere, but the in-between years, when you’re no longer a kid and not yet destined into who you’ll become, are rarely centered. There’s a gap, a period of searching, growing, and becoming—and that’s the story we’re here to tell.

We are fortunate to already be working with the best creators and authors in this space, and whether they found their readership in hardcopy print-form, on Wattpad, Webtoon or other platforms, we’re honored that they are entrusting us to turn their hugely popular stories into movies.

So many of the stories we love span multiple books, and as a result the films will have multiple sequels. This means that the authors, Red Sage, the screenwriters, producers, directors, cast and all the fans and viewers of the films and series will all be partners for a long time. We’re excited to be on this journey. More to come!

James Farrell

CEO/Founder

James grew up splitting his time between New York City and Vermont, attending The Dalton School in NYC, followed by Middlebury College in Vermont and Columbia Business School in NYC. While at Middlebury, James lived and studied abroad in Madrid Spain, and this put him on an international track for the rest of his career.

After finishing school in 2005, James worked for Sony Pictures International for 10 years, beginning in Los Angeles, before moving to Toronto, Canada and then Tokyo, Japan. While in Japan in 2015, he was offered a role by Amazon to lead Amazon Studios Japan, and then was subsequently entrusted with oversight over India, then Latin America, and ultimately the UK, Europe and the rest of Amazon Studios International in 2018. With offices in 17 locations around the world, and an annual output of >150 films and series each year, James learned a lot about local and global tastes. Unscripted series like LOL: Last One Laughing and Clarkson’s Farm, and YA movies and scripted series like Culpa Mia and Maxton Hall were juggernauts for Amazon International, not only because they were great films and series, but also because they filled gaps in what audiences were clamoring to see.

Given the success he'd had in the YA space at Amazon, and seeing an open field in this part of the industry with little competition, James left Amazon in 2025 to found Red Sage Studios, a company singularly focused on bringing the biggest and best YA stories to life. James currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
